Pediatric/Adolescent HIV Care Leaders in the field will provide a comprehensive review of the current standards of care for treatment of HIV-infected children and adolescents. Management of complications and co-morbidities as well as psychosocial issues and interventions will be covered. |

| Success of Perinatal HIV Prevention Amanda M. Cotter, MD, MRCOG, MRCPI, MSPH This session will include the current epidemiology and recommendations for perinatal transmission it’s prevention. Specific scenarios will be presented to highlight: prenatal consultation, dealing with an ARV experienced mother with or without resistance, dealing with mothers with no prenatal care, and how to handle poor responses to ARV in the pregnant woman. Alternative choices for therapy in pregnant women and alternative regimens for the exposed infant will also be presented. |

Hyperinsulinemia Robert M. Lawrence, MD, Peggy Borum, PhD The session will begin with a discussion of scope of the problem. Screening and risk factors will be outlined and possible intervention and management strategies will be explored. It will cover the initial risk factors and evaluation of hyperlipidemia. It will describe some low-cost methods for evaluation and tracking changes. The recommendations for management will be briefly discussed. Recommendations for evaluation of different interventions for hyperlipidemia will be considered. (Lawrence), (Borum) |

Immunizations in Children and Adolescents with HIV Jorge Lujan-Zilbermann, MD, MS This session will review the use of vaccines in HIV-infected children (MMR, IPV, VZV, DTaP, Pneumococcal). The discussion will also include Menactra, HPV vaccine, DTaP boosters in adolescents, and HBV initial response and failed response. |

| HIV Prevention in Youth Alma Vega, MSN, ARNP, BC, Alex Moreno, MPH, Teen Panel The issues surrounding prevention for youth, ages 14-25 will be presented. Participants of the P4 Program (Peer Educators) at the University of Miami, will showcase their innovative art and music messages that help promote prevention among their peers. |
| Medical Traumatic Stress Disorder in HIV Positive Children Kimberly H. Shaw, PhD This session is designed to heighten awareness of MTSD in HIV-infection children. The speaker will demonstrate different assessment tools for identifying the disorder and associated risks. A review of prevention interventions and early intervention for non-psychologists will also be presented. The session will conclude with a discussion of management, referral and follow-up for children and families. (Slides) |
| Antiretroviral Therapy in Adolescents (Track:- Medication/Pharmacy- Related Topics) Kimberley Brown, PharmD This session will open with a quick review of the basic principles of antiretroviral therapy. A discussion of utilizing genotype and phenotype information and salvage protocols will be presented. Case examples will be used for illustration and discussion. |
| Medical and Psychosocial Issues for Children with HIV Infection Gwendolyn Scott, MD This session will present information on the medical and psychological issues identified through a retrospective, longitudinal analysis of 166 children with HIV-Infection followed at the University of Miami’s Comprehensive HIV Program. The results of their analysis are sure to support and substantiate what many practitioners believe are the “important issues”; as well as to surprise practitioners as to additional issues that require our attention.
