Preventing Perinatal Transmission of HIV

Since 1994, the Perinatal HIV Transmission Prevention Program has worked collaboratively with other agencies to reach at-risk women and educate providers on the protocol to prevent the vertical transmission of HIV.  As a continuing part of these efforts, this educational module, Preventing Perinatal Transmission of HIV, has been created to help providers understand their roles in preventing perinatal transmission.  Topics include: Epidemiology, Risk Factors, HIV Testing, Rapid Testing, Research, Treatment, and Resources.  The lesson also includes detailed information regarding relevant legislation and the research findings from clinical studies.

Hilda Leon, B.S., R.N.C. is the Perinatal HIV Transmission Prevention Program Coordinator for the USF Center for HIV Education and Research and the Clinical Educator for the Florida/Caribbean AETC Rapid Testing Initiative.
