The National HIV/AIDS Strategy
William D. McColl, Esq

The National HIV/AIDS Strategy, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and debt reduction efforts are changing the U.S. response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. These changes are both an immense opportunity but also a threat to the current way the U.S. provides HIV prevention and treatment services. Explore how these new forces will impact practitioners of HIV services, remake the Ryan White Program, modify Medicaid and shape the future of HIV/AIDS care.

Obstacles to Eradication of HIV through Antiretroviral Therapy
Mario Stevenson, PhD

In this lecture the pathogenesis of HIV will be discussed. The speaker will highlight where HIV may continue to replicate despite highly active antiretroviral therapy. While the controversy exists regarding low level viremia in these patients who are well controlled on HIV treatment, he will debate if intensification strategies will help us to stop this low level viremia. He will also discuss novel laboratory techniques developed to detect low level viremia in such individuals.
