In this session special issues related to HIV care and treatment will be covered. The speaker will review the management of women in pre-planning for pregnancy, management during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. Issues of aging in women will be presented from a preventive health format.

The Impact of Drug Abuse in HIV Infection in Florida
Allan E. Rodriguez, MD

HIV and its medicines affect the metabolic and endocrine system in a variety of ways. This talk will focus on implications of HIV and antiretroviral therapy on burning metabolic and endocrine issues. Discussion will highlight HIV related insulin resistance, and various aspects of metabolic syndrome. Cardio-vascular diseases and dyslipidemia etiology and management in HIV positive patients will be addressed. The latest clinical studies and their findings on how HIV medicines can increase cardio-vascular events in HIV will be presented.

HIV and Malignancies

As patients age with HIV, malignancies are experienced within groups of HIV patients. The speaker will review and discuss trends and risk factors for malignancies in the HIV population with information presented from recent conferences. Caring for the Aging HIV Population

Information from recent conferences will be reviewed on issues of aging in the HIV-infected population. The speaker will address the importance of patient education to reduce risk factors, as well as recommendations for monitoring and screening and treatment and follow-up.

Resistance Testing

This will be an interactive session evaluating resistance tests of patients with complex resistance patterns. Considerations for when to use genotypes, virtual phenotypes and phenotypes and use of replication capacity will be reviewed. New CCR5 tests, integrated resistance tests and new tests of T-cell activation will be highlighted.
